When Jesus taught his disciples (and us) how to pray, He introduced us to God’s desire for the Kingdom of Heaven being our reality here on earth. For the first time since mankind’s removal from the garden, it was possible for His Kingdom to again occupy our present reality. It was not because He physically had come and dwelt among us in bodily form, it was because His physical presence was the beginning of the fulfillment of the New Covenant. Jesus Christ is the perfect theology (beliefs) of the kingdom.  To experience “your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven,” we must first embrace the beliefs of the kingdom. Jesus made it possible for the Kingdom to become accessible to all mankind.

Culture is the learned pattern of beliefs (a religious creed or tenant of faith), attitudes, values, customs and products shared by people that make up their core values (lived out behavior). Simply put, culture is a pattern of living that reflects what people believe. So when Jesus taught us to pray “Your kingdom come your will be done on earth as it is in heaven”, He was telling us to connect with heaven in such a way that the culture of heaven would become our very own. It all starts with how and what we believe. For so many years I taught and ordered my life by right behavior.  It was my duty as a Christian to live right. I truly believed my right living is what made me righteous in the sight of God. I believed that salvation through Jesus made it possible for me to do the things that made me righteous. Although portions of my belief system were founded in truth, I believed my righteousness was contingent on right living - not right believing.

According to God, right believing is more important than right living. I am the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus because of what Jesus did, not as a result of how I lived. This is based on the truth that people’s behavior is the result of what they believe. We are now able to live these truths out and expect to experience the same things Jesus did. Kingdom culture starts with believers believing the beliefs of the Kingdom and demonstrating them to the earth. I encourage you to walk out that freedom in your life today! You are one new belief away from living out the culture of the kingdom of heaven like never before. Have an awesome month.
